§ 18-1. Peddlers, canvassers, solicitors regulated.

  • (a)

    The practice of going in and upon private residences in the city by solicitors, peddlers, hawkers, itinerant merchants or transient vendors of merchandise not having been requested or invited so to do by the owner or occupants of such private residences for the purpose of soliciting orders for the sale of goods, wares and merchandise and/or disposing of and/or peddling or hawking goods, wares and merchandise is a nuisance and punishable as such nuisance as a misdemeanor.

    (b)

    This section shall not be deemed to prohibit public and charitable organizations, including churches, schools, nonprofit organizations organized for the health and recreation of young people and recognized charitable organizations from solicitations; however, such persons or organizations must first file with the city clerk-treasurer a statement stating the date and time any solicitation activity will be undertaken within the city, the purpose for such activity, and the persons in charge of or responsible for the activity.
